First of all, the performance requirements for piston ring materials are as follows:
(1) Wear resistance and oil storage;
(2) Strength (flexural strength and fatigue strength);
(3) elasticity and elastic modulus;
(4) hardness;
(5) Thermal stability. The most commonly used high-strength gray cast iron in the past is the basic material of the piston ring, and it has been used for the longest time. It is the main material of the piston ring of medium and low speed engines. The piston rings on high-speed engines are almost entirely made of alloy cast iron. Cast iron materials for piston rings are roughly divided into: alloy cast iron, ductile iron, multi-element alloy cast iron, gray cast iron, and heat-resistant alloy cast iron.
